Time for a personal post

Ok, it's time for a bit of personal stuff!!
(This is my personal LJ after all so this is probably the sort of post I am supposed to write ^^)

I don't write often but I write a lot so I'll place it under a cut!!

Bad News: I've been ill for about 2 weeks. Well, actually the illness is gone, but my throat is still sore (a lot) and keeps waking me in the middle of the night coughing. I hate this. Absolutely definitely hate it.
The worst thing is that the more I cough, the worse my throat gets so I am becoming addicted to "medicine sweets" (I don't know how to call them in English lol).....
I am a boy who is rarely ill, but when it happens, well I seem to compensate the rest :(

Fortunately I am no longer ill, so today I trained a bit... yeah I am a bit hyperactive so I hate passive stuff..... 2 weeks without lifting or jumping or sprinting or anything made me a bit depressed.
Because of this, and because of the fact I am a *stupid boy*, I tried to play a bit of tennis. ^^
The results? Total devastation of course, since my game is pretty physical (what do you expect from a 19yo boy who's grown on red clay like most europeans and south americans).
A waste of time and a bit of frustration, too.

This is why today I was relieved, when I saw that I could actually exercise a bit without dying =P

Unfortunately in the next weeks I will be busy because of my university exams XD
In this second half we had a lot of courses (5) and they are all difficult... they aren't the "you study your theory you pass" kind of exam...
four of them are Physics and the last one is Analysis B+C

This means that, right now, there are thousands of sheets full of scribbles, formulas, derivatives, integrals and other &#X%@ everywhere in my house... Fisica Sperimentale B is in the kitchen, Meccanica Razionale on the bed, Analysis was a bit on my desk and a bit on the table in the basement........

°° I love leaving my things everywhere :D °°

My first exam is on July 1st, the second one on July 2nd (they give us plenty of time to rest) then a short break and other two exams the following week.... I'll take the last one in September

By the way, I was getting a little bit bored so I took a few quizzes
I already said it a million times, but i like taking quizzes... I usually prefer the "not-so-serious" ones, but today I also made this one:

Well well, here's ~~how I wasted my time~~ what I did on LJ this week:

& I have figured out how the whole journal-community-friend story works!!
& I've also added some new friends and joined a few new comms!!
& I've finally wrote something in my profile! custom html of course ^^
(it took me a while because I am a damned perfectionist)
--> I've moved all the links to resources to my profile, so it should be easier to find them now

University Life: I didn't go to university last week because of the exams (on exam days there are no lessons te-hee)
Oh, and I've just finished an exam at university this morning!!! "Science of Materials A+B"... I found it quite easy, probably beacuse I had more time to prepare this time :)

I am still on vacation for the rest of the week... lessons resume on monday (zob)

& My off-season training (we can't ski in may ^^) is going pretty well, not pushing myself...
I'm taking things easy because it's only May and I have the whole summer and autumn to prepare before the start of the races..... I don't have any particular goal except to have fun (university is the most important thing now)
Playing a lot of tennis (my 2nd sport) lately, hitting the courts 4-5 days a week, it's an hell of a training for the legs and it's fun!

& An other stupid passion I have is taking tests and quizzes!!!! Here's a funny one I made a few minutes ago: The Element Quiz

Icon Tutorial

Okay, I was asked to make a tutorial explaining this style of coloring i sometimes use in my icons, and I am very glad to help!

Usually, for my icons, I don't follow a tutorial.... I just keep experimenting until I find something that works for me...
If I like it, then, I record the whole procedure as an action.... so I can use it anytime on my bases, saving a lot of time :)

Now, let's see how to do this:

Well, first of all, grab your image... we're gonna use this one from Screencap Heaven.
Prepare your base (resize, crop blablabla...)

Now choose "Adjustments" >> "Brightness/Contrast" and use the following settings:
Brightness: +5
Contrast: +10
This little adjustment makes your image more "sensitive" to the changes we're going to apply later

Duplicate your layer and set it to Screen (100% opacity).
This is a very common step and you can find it in many other tutorials. Highly recommended for dark images.

Now it's time to mess up with the colors! Select "Layers" >> "New Fill Layer" >> "Solid Color"
Color: #091F41 (or an other color if you want)
Set the layer to Exclusion (100% opacity).

#091F41 exclusion is becoming popular, I have seen other tutorials using it (or a very similar color).
The original is from here (I think)

Now that we've altered the colors... it depends on what you want from your icon.
You can leave it as it is, maybe you want to desaturate it, or maybe you want to "fill" the image a little....

1)
To make it darker, add an other color layer, #BEBEBE and set it to Linear Burn (39% opacity)

2)
If you are looking for the opposite result, add an other color layer, #646464and set it to Color Dodge (21% opacity)
This looks great on darker images/backgrounds, and I use it very often.

If you want, you can add a "Brightness/Contrast" Adjustment Layer.
The settings you use depend a lot on the image you choose. For example, if you want a "smoother" look:
Brightness: +9
Contrast: -7

And hop, it's finished. Hope you like it, have a nice day!!

Hello everybody,

this is my very first post on LJ so I guess it's the right occasion to introduce myself:

(oh this is boring..... also there's a thing such as user info, right?) Anyway, here are a few other things, I'm writing them here because I haven't filled my bio yet =P

++ music --> every kind. favourite? alt/new/punk rock
++ sports --> alpine skiing (competitive), tennis (just an hobby)
++ languages --> italiano, english, español (most fluent >> least)
++ hobbies --> sports, photoshop & graphics (icon freak)

Making Icons/graphics is one of my hobbies, and since there are lots of graphic journals/communities here on LJ, I decided to start this journal. Of course I will post here anything else, this is my main page after all!

Although I can write in English, I'm not perfect and I AM ITALIAN :D, therefore don't pick on my grammar (critics will be helpful and deeply appreciated, as long as they aren't offensive)

I will continue this post in an other moment, I need a break now.... I customized the entire layout today, but I wanted to write an entry because the blank page looked sooo depressing....

now I have to get started... you know, fix a few things, understand how the whole friends/community thing works and so on!
